"The Vercors was to be used as a base for allied airborne elements, in order to act in Grenoble and Valence to cut off the German retreat at the time of the Liberation. But, at the beginning of the summer of 1944, the Nazis stormed the Vercors and, on 25 July, the village of La Chapelle-en-Vercors was set on fire and 16 young men were shot in the yard of a farm. The remains of the barn, which adjoins this courtyard, house a museum space that pays tribute to the young martyrs.
