Glacières du lac founded in 1860, became the Glacières de Paris at the beginning of the 20th century in Les Neyrolles.
Founded in 1860 by a Nantua café owner, the Glacières du lac rapidly developed. At the beginning of the 20th century, they became the Glacières de Paris. Between 20 and 30 wagons of 10 tons of ice are shipped every day throughout France. However, the company collapsed with the onset of the First World War, competing with artificial ice. It closed in 1926. The site, completely refurbished, can be visited today on a self-guided or guided tour. The night visits are particularly interesting thanks to the lighting effects.

Tourisme industriel réfrigérant
Fut un temps où évidemment les réfrigérateurs n'existaient mais où l'on était friand de pains de glace pour conserver les aliments. Les glacières du lac de Sylans près de Nantua répondirent à ce besoin pendant des années. Les 300 ouvriers découpaient la glace sur le lac en hiver et la conservaient dans d'immenses bâtiments aux murs et aux toits isolés. Un travail incroyable et de la glace naturelle expédiée par train dans toute la France et même jusqu'à Alger. Le site est ouvert en visite libre avec un sentier d'interprétation. Des visites guidées sont organisées. Juste à la sortie Nantua de l'autoroute Lyon - Genève.

La visite guidée est vraiment très intéressante. Le site est grandiose à côté du lac. Nos anciens étaient d'un courage hors norme avant que la technologie apporte le confort dans notre quotidien.
