The house where Brillat-Savarin was born, a lawyer by profession and especially known as a gastronome, in Belley.
Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), a lawyer by profession, is best known as a gastronome, author of La Physiologie du goût, a treatise on culinary science. Representative of the Third Estate to the States General, he was mayor of Belley in 1793. After a forced exile in the United States, he came back to France where he was appointed Councillor at the Court of Cassation. Only the courtyard of his birthplace can be visited: the arcades, the tower and the well date from the 15th century, the wooden gallery from the 19th century.
