THE SANITARY INSTRUCTIONS
A monument made up of two buildings important to the port's activity, as they are the administration of the sanitary locker.
This discreet monument, despite its location, often goes unnoticed by visitors coming to the Old Port from the Mucem and Fort Saint-Jean. And yet, this civil building, consisting of two long buildings, was of prime importance to the port's activities. Historically, Marseille is the French port predestined for trade with the Orient. Every day, crews arrive there and Marseilles sets up quarantines if necessary. These two 18th century buildings are the administrative headquarters of the sanitary instructions where the captains came to report upon their arrival. Despite these precautions, the Great Plague of 1720 decimated the population.
