The grocery store also encourages interaction and education, allowing customers to suggest recipes and exchange ideas with others. Information on the origin of produce is displayed, along with photos showing what fruit and vegetables look like before they are ripe. The grocery store operates as an association, and customers must join when they check out. The membership fee is free, allowing everyone to contribute according to their means. L'épicerie du coing is subsidized by the Région Paca and the Conseil Général des Bouches-du-Rhône, and currently employs two full-time staff. The project aims to make the store economically viable and create a third salaried position.
