CASTLE OF MONTGILBERT
Castle which was a military construction with a wall delimiting the low court and a high wall protecting the main building.
Around 1200, the lordship of Montgilbert belonged to the Saint-Gérand family, who seemed to be building or at least remodeling a previous fortress. This military construction has an external enclosure delimiting the lower court and an upper enclosure protecting the main building and the outbuildings. At the end of the 13th century, it passed to the Aycelin de Montaigu-Listenois, then, by marriage, to the Vienne. Sold as a national asset, it was abandoned and ruined. Voluntary workcamps are regularly organized to maintain and develop the site. Stroll freely in the ruins but be careful because some places can be hazardous.
