THE STRONG SUCHET CALLED "DU BARDONNET"..
Historic building - Military
Recommended
Located a few kilometres from Sospel on the road to the Brouis Pass (Nice), Mount Barbonnet is home to Fort Suchet, built in 1883 and 1886, in the same period as the Authion forts. This stocky structure controlled the historic Nice-Cuneo road and was one of the locks of the Bévéra valley. A Maginot-type structure was later (1931-1935) to reinforce this defensive system, which notably blocked the Italian offensive of June 1940.
