STRONG FROM THE MAGINOT LINE
Fort forming part of the Maginot Line fortifications. Three rooms with different themes at Sainte-Agnès
Very few tourists can imagine that the famous Maginot Line extended as far as the Alpes-Maritimes! However, the construction of the Sainte-Agnès fort is part of the same programme as the fortifications in north-eastern France that were supposed to protect the German and Belgian borders. The Sainte-Agnès fort was built in the 1930s and was intended to protect the Menton Bay. Its installations are in an excellent state of conservation. The fort houses three rooms arranged around different themes: the genesis and history of the village of Sainte-Agnès, the Battle of the Alps and the history of the French-Italian border in the Southern Alps. Photos and commentaries help to understand the structure's layout. Interactive 3D plans offer a different view of the casemates.
