La Colombe relies on its reputation, art and the stunning building. Sadly the restaurant was not worthy. The mains were only slightly better than a local bistro. The deserts were dry and lacking in texture or flavour. For a €130 pp meal it was disappointing. Tomorrow we are trying another Michelin restaurant in Biot to see if that will wash away this memory.
Went out for valentine's day to La Colombe d'Or hotel's restaurant after extensive recommendations from friends on how great the food was, the atmosphere and staff, with the heads up that the place is high end and the price reflects it.
Booked in advance and when I arrived my reservation was not in their system, even though I showed the confirmation email and they didn't manage to find it. Finally they arranged a table in a secluded little room with 3 other couples.
They were clearly understaffed, the waiter took 20-30 min to even come to the table, when he did we were ready to order and get drinks, he just asked for water, confirmed the request and turned his back. The water took 15 min to arrive.
After the water he took our orders, I asked for two wine-by-the-glass and for him to light up the candle - that took 25 minutes. When he came back he didn't bring the matches and forgot to light up the candle. I asked one more time.
The 1st course came in, it was decent, but definitely not amazing as I expected.
The second course took 45 mins after the 1st one, and they took over 30 mins to drop by the table and more than that to deliver anything we asked.
The main course came in, the food was good - nothing surreal. So was the dessert.
The check took literally 45 mins to arrive, even after I got tired of waiting and literally stood to talk to the manager to speed up the process.
Bottom line, the check was $340 - One would expect to have a great meal and great staff. The waiters were kind and polite, when they showed up, however for $330 you would expect to have non-stop service, at least for drinks - getting to the point that we started to share the drinks - that's how awful the waiting was.
And the Food did not live up to a $100 restaurant. Definitely should've gone somewhere else.
Couldn't have asked for a better experience at the restaurant. Outdoor garden was more beautiful than pictured. Our large party was accommodated in every way imaginable. Excellent people.
When you are in St-paul de Vence this is a must visit. The place has such a great history and amazing art. It was the highlight of our visit to this town. Fantastic service and food. The menu hasn’t changed in decades #nostalgia
Have been coming here for special occasions intermittently for 20+ years. Food always good. The restaurant and terrace are one of the nicest places to be when the sun is out.
Mythique. Incontournable.
A éviter serait mon conseil.
The best lunch, served promptly and in the best way, surrounded by priceless works of art, or with wonderful views on the terrace, that I have ever had. Book in advance.
Don’t ever dare go to this place. Arrogant french waiters and manager. Menu is in french and waiter does not even bother to explain it watching all of us googling for translation! Some of us were no very hungry and asked for Starter and were obliged to ask for Main dish also or the option was that we should leave (!!) it is shown as an elegant restaurant but they lack etiquette, manners and service. This place should be shut down. Shame on you
We made a reservation at this restaurant to celebrate my mom's birthday, drawn in by its rich history and captivating ambiance. While the venue exuded charm, unfortunately, the service left much to be desired.
The waitstaff displayed a condescending demeanor, which dampened our dining experience. The desserts were a major disappointment, falling far below our expectations. Additionally, the lukewarm tea was far from satisfactory.
In a rather unusual gesture, instead of the promised complimentary dessert for my mom's birthday, the restaurant took a guest's dessert order, added a candle, and presented it as a gift. This departure from the expected birthday treat was somewhat perplexing and didn't align with the special occasion we had hoped to celebrate.
Despite the restaurant's captivating atmosphere, the overall experience was marred by service issues and a deviation from the anticipated birthday celebration. We had hoped for more on this special occasion.

Options were discreetly provided with no fuss.
Lovely eating area surrounded by so much art.
A real experience to be savoured.
