SITE CASTRAL DU HAUT CLAIRVAUX

On the Haut-Clairvaux hill, the castle dominates the valley. All that remains of the castle built by the powerful lords of Clairvaux and fortified by Richard the Lionheart in the ^11th century is the keep. This 28-meter-high master tower can be seen from afar (the highest point in the Haut-Poitou region). The 4-hectare castle complex includes a ^12th-century Notre-Dame-des-Vergers chapel, surrounded by a dry moat. The site has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1929.
