In Chantelle, the Bouble penetrates into an increasingly narrows valley, which takes the profile of the gorge. The large loops of the river and the needs of the city above explain the establishment of many mills on the banks of the municipality (4250 m). There were flour mills, wineries, mailleries, tanneries, laundries, carderies. Their environment was occupied by cultivated spaces (gardens, vines, orchards) retained by layers of dry stones that are still clear under the brush.
