Gardens created in the century as a backdrop to the château at Saint-Loup-Lamairé.
The park layout of this 17th-century château was designed in the pure tradition of the French gardens of Versailles. It is organized around several areas of use and ornament, including a kitchen garden, boulingrin, quincunx, orchard, orangery courtyard, flower and box garden, water gardens, arboretum and forest park, arranged on either side of the canal and along the Thouet river. Several buildings are scattered around: orangery, menagerie, ice house, dovecote... Truly splendid! The park and gardens have been awarded the Jardin Remarquable label.

Jardins du Château de Saint-Loup-Sur-Thouet 79600 Saint-Loup-Lamairé
Fin mars, date de ma visite, aucun accès n'était possible aux jardins du Château de Saint-Loup-Sur-Thouet. J'ai cependant pu admirer l'extérieur du château ainsi que le donjon et apercevoir les jardins. Un panonceau explicatif assorti d'un plan à l'extérieur de l'enceinte permet de connaître l'historique du Château et quelques spécificités concernant les jardins. J'aimerais bien y retourner à une période plus favorable pour une visite des jardins, par exemple, en fin de printemps-début d'été
