Pilori, a Renaissance-style building that served for a long time as the city hall and that offers virtual art exhibitions in Niort.

In old Niort, where Yvers and Mathurin Berthomé streets meet, stands the Pilori, an exhibition space managed by the town of Niort. Built in the 16th century, this Renaissance-style building served for a long time as the town hall. Le Pilori now offers exhibitions of visual arts. Throughout the year, it gives carte blanche to invited professional artists: painters, sculptors, photographers, etc... Artists or professional mediators are systematically present on site to welcome visitors.

Le Pilori tire son nom du pilori médiéval qui occupait l’emplacement avant la construction de cet édifice construit de 1520 à 1530. Modifié par la suite pour y ajouter des tours semi-circulaires aux angles et un étage de créneaux et merlons. Gargouilles et fenêtre à meneaux complètent l’aspect visuel.
Le Pilori est maintenant devenu lieu d’expositions temporaires.
