Memorial reminding us that the Aunis region was the scene of clashes during the liberation of the La Rochelle pocket.
The region of La Rochelle was a fallback zone for the Germans after the landing of June 1944. In this highly strategic location on the Atlantic coast, the Germans had built a powerful submarine base at the port of La Pallice. This memorial reminds us that the Aunis region was the scene of confrontations during the liberation of the pocket of La Rochelle, the last liberated town in France. Every year, a ceremony pays tribute to the veterans.
