A fort designed to protect the Charente coastline thanks to its strategic position between the island of Oleron and the mainland.
This is one of the monuments you'll want to visit on your vacation. Built at the end of the 17th century, at the foot of the bridge on the Ile d'Oléron, its purpose is to protect the coast of Charente. Its strategic position, between Oléron and the mainland, locks the southern access to the Rochefort roadstead. During the summer months, don't miss out on the many fun and entertaining ways to enjoy the building: dramatized tours, storytelling evenings, aperitif concerts... Inside, the six rooms of the barracks (the garrison's living quarters) complete the tour.
