GABARRIER VILLAGE
An association organizing visits to discover the traces still visible in the village of Saint-Simon with panels
The village of Saint-Simon was home to three shipyards. They made the barges that transported the cognac, paper, salt, wood, quarry stones, etc. to the sea. There was an abundance of activity between the passage of ships loaded with merchandise and the construction work of the gabarriers. Today, the traces of this activity are still visible in the village, follow the signs of the discovery circuit, it starts on the square near the church and the house of the gabarriers. It is divided into two parts, one part visiting Saint-Simon and its history and one part on the hamlet of Juac for the discovery of the gabarre.
