ROYAL CASTLE OF COGNAC - BARON OTARD
The French monarch, François the 1st was born on September 12th, 1494 there. The castle which is also the headquarters of the Otard name is however prior to the Renaissance since ancient walls date from the thirteenth century. During the Hundred Years War, the castle spoke French or English, according to the vicissitudes of battles. Philip III le Hardi and Prince Noir lived there. By 1450, the place became the main residence of Valois. In 1795, the baron Otard acquired the castle to setup your company specialized in cognac there. Inside, do not miss the room with the Helmet (13th), the vaulted room called "salle des Gardes" House of the Governour (where François the 1st was born).
