The municipality, nestled in the Creux valley, extends to the banks of the River Aisne. Its history dates back to the time of the Romans, as shown by the current Saint-Eloi Street, which was a Roman route. The Mérovingiens kings had a hunting house in the village, annex of the Royal house of Cuise, which was to Saint-Jean-aux-Bois. Surrounded by woods and forests, the village is picturesque.
