Stele honoring four illustrious generals, symbolizing resistance and liberation, in the place du monument aux morts in Laon.
The stele, which honours four illustrious generals (Alphonse Juin, Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, Pierre Koenig and Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque), was erected on the square in front of Laon's war memorial on June 18, 2006. The town, which has witnessed conflicts since antiquity, was liberated from German troops in 1918. Facing the memorials to the World Wars and North Africa, the stele symbolizes resistance, liberation and the entry into the modern era.
