The surf spot of La Sauzaie is the reference spot of the region. Characterized by a hollow and powerful wave, this spot of "reef" (rocky platier) offers pretty peaks surfable only at mid-tide and at high tide. This spot is not recommended for beginners, reserved for the initiated, with waves of 1 m to 2 m. The spot is lit every night from April to September. The best conditions to enjoy this wave: no wind or offshore (the spot does not support west and south winds), between 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide.

The Plage des Dunes is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brétignolles, as it stretches for several kilometres. Just like Longeville-sur-Mer, the coast of Bretignolles is one of the top surfing spots in the Vendée. One of them is Plage des Dunes 1, at the place called "Le Petit Rocher", located between the Normandelière beach and the Dunes 1 lifeguard station. This surfing spot offers a sandy coastline, suitable for all types of surfers whatever their level, even beginners. It is also possible to surf on the Plage des Dunes 2.

This Handisurf certified school offers lessons from 6 years old. For beginners or to improve your skills. In July and August, the lessons and rental structure is located on the Dunes 1 beach opposite the surfing area. Practical and theoretical teaching on the knowledge of the environment, the equipment, the weather, safety... Surfing, body-boarding and paddle lessons (given on the Dunes beach) are available from the age of 6 (condition: have a 50 m swimming certificate). Out of season, surfing lessons are available.

The municipal sailing school is located on the beach of La Normandelière. Initiation and improvement courses, where private lessons in various nautical activities: Optimist, catamaran, windsurfing or kayaking. The base also welcomes groups and sea classes, it also provides equipment rental: catamaran, windsurfing, kayak and paddle. The sailing school also offers leisure sailing activities on Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to June and from September to November. New: windsurffoil, windsurfing board equipped with a foil.
