Brissac, in both medieval and Renaissance style, is France's tallest château, with 204 rooms.
Château de Brissac (15 km from Angers) is the highest castle in France. Its seven storeys have earned it the nickname of the "Giant of the Loire Valley". The former 11th-century fortified castle has been rebuilt and restored over the centuries to preserve the historical legacy of this impressive residence. In both medieval and Renaissance styles, it now boasts 204 rooms, most of which are still inhabited by its owners, the family of the 14th Duke of Brissac. Self-guided or guided tours (approx. 1h15) allow you to discover a rich interior in excellent condition. Starting with the grand salon, where furniture, paintings and photos are on display, you'll then be led into the dining room, where a table is said to have been laid since the dukes' grandest receptions. Were you expected? Moving upstairs, you'll stroll through the painting gallery and reconstructed bedrooms, before arriving in a private theater with a hundred seats dating from the Belle Époque. The tour continues in the château's cellars, where you can enjoy a wine tasting, before entering the park with its flower-lined paths shaded by century-old trees: magnificent! Don't miss the boutique and tearoom, where you can prolong this wonderful day. Finally, if you've fallen under the spell of this estate, you can rent a room to take full advantage of its exceptional setting and ideal location between Angers and Saumur.
