Work (1989) located on the site of the former Mindin ferry landing stage, paying tribute to the abolition of slavery

Located on the site of the old ferry landing stage of Mindin, this work pays tribute to the abolition of slavery. It is signed Jean-Claude Mayo and dates from 1989. From the bowels of a ship, materialized by twelve huge wooden arms, three bronze figures escape: a chained slave who struggles, a man unchained who rises to freedom, another standing and free. The figures thus leave their status as slaves in Europe (first pillar) to become free men in Africa (second pillar), looking towards the future, towards Elsewhere (third pillar).
