THE FOUNDRY GARDEN
Visit the Foundry Garden, lined with camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons and magnolias in Nantes.
This garden is symbolic of the modernization work undertaken in recent years in the heart of the Ile de Nantes. This former industrial wasteland from the early 20th century, which for a long time housed the Fonderies de l'Atlantique, has been undergoing a complete overhaul since 2009, and is being built up to accommodate professional offices, housing and shops. The Jardin des Fonderies is an excellent example of the reconversion of an industrial area now dedicated to the general public. Take a stroll under the 115-metre high hall, admire the bamboo gardens, enjoy the botanical and horticultural heritage of Nantes and discover the many industrial pieces scattered here and there, reminding you of the district's past. The furnaces you'll see on your stroll have supplied the propellers for such prestigious buildings as the France, the Foch and the Clemenceau, so it's well worth a detour... Numerous parking spaces have been created to make getting around easier. And children haven't been forgotten either, as there's plenty of space for them to get their exercise: spider webs, a slalom, a fitness trail and even logs! As you can see, the 3,600m2 Jardin des Fonderies is a great place for young and old alike.
