WATER MIRROR OF NANTES
Miroir d'eau de Nantes, a masterpiece of jets, mist and children's games.
Barely a hundred years ago, the château's ramparts were still reflected in the Loire flowing at its feet. Then the Loire was filled in. Since 2015, some of this spirit has been restored with the creation of a water mirror. A 1,300 m² sheet of very fine water (around 2 cm) reflects the château and its immediate surroundings. It's not a swimming pool or a pond, but a quasi-artistic work of art. 32 water jets up to 1.5 m high, 208 misting points and numerous light sources create "tableaux" that change according to the clouds, the season or the time of day. Children have already made this their playground, enjoying the welcome coolness during the hottest hours of the day. As part of the future Nantes promenade stretching from the station to Place de la Petite-Hollande, new trees have been planted around the château, including blue cedars and a weeping beech, as well as a nearby playground featuring a sea monster by Japanese artist Kinya Maruyama.
