An association whose aim was to safeguard maritime and river heritage and contribute to public development.
Made famous by the identical reconstruction of one of Jules Verne's boats, the Saint-Michel II, the Nantes-based association La Cale de l'île celebrated 35 years in 2024! La Cale de l'île, a former Nantes association for the preservation of maritime and river heritage, took its name from the place where it was established, "La Cale 2 L'île". Cale 2 is a former slipway of the Dubigeon shipyard, unused since its closure in 1987. Now housed in Hangar 31, its mission is to promote nautical heritage and culture by taking part in old-rigger events. The association also helps people in difficulty and contributes to the development of social, educational and cultural programs. It maintains its various boats in a yard open to the public, where a member of the association will be delighted to present current projects. Enough to awaken a vocation for marine carpentry! Outings are also possible - just ask!
