JARDINS FAMILIAUX
In Nantes, there are just over 1,200 plots spread over more than 80 garden sites, known as collective gardens, shared gardens, allotments, solidarity gardens or vegetable parks. These spaces come to life thanks to the involvement of some twenty associations and the support of the City of Nantes' Nature and Gardens Department. The purpose of these gardens is manifold. Of course, it's a question of introducing nature into the city, but it's also a place of urban biodiversity and it's also, and perhaps above all, its social function that takes precedence, since these gardens are places of social mixing. Growing your own garden is an almost universal passion that knows no borders.
If you'd like to try your hand at gardening, it's easy. Just go to one of the Nantes town halls or to the Nantes City Council website and submit a registration form. Be aware, however, that the waiting list is long, from 3 to 5 years on average... but isn't patience the hallmark of every good gardener?
