AUBERGE DE JEUNESSE
Well located and well equipped hostel offering beds, independent kitchen and library.
During a stopover on the Opal Coast, it is convenient to find shelter in the youth hostel in Boulogne-sur-Mer. Well-equipped, it provides travellers with 137 beds, a garden area, a laundry, children's games, a relaxation area with a bar and a library, as well as an independent equipped kitchen open onto the dining room to prepare your meals. In low season, it is possible to book single rooms according to availability. The hostel is well located, in front of the train station, halfway between the port or the beach and the old town. Just a few metres from the station, you can also simply come and have a drink at the hostel bar with the travellers. Here you will benefit from the partnership with the National Sea Centre, Nausicaá.
Je me fais soit trop vieux, soit l'ambiance des auberges de jeunesse a changé, c'est dommage pour l'esprit initial de ce type d'hébergement...
I would by no means suggest staying here even if you are offered to for free.
DO NOT STAY HERE. VALUE YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY AND FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO STAY.
We visited this hostel as a school and were told we were not allowed to use the lifts at any time of our stay at the hostel and as a result we were forced to carry our luggage up hazardous spiral stairs until we reached our rooms (on the top floor).
The food was horrendous, consisting of stale bread, with little variety of toppings for breakfast. The choice of drinks were scarce and we were provided with dirty food trays. Dinner was poorly cooked, and strictly rationed for everyone. Most of the food tasted plain and seemed like it was stored overnight.
The rooms were completely appalling, the pillows were stained with red and the bedsheets had brown marks, obviously unwashed. The beds were a health hazard as the ladder to the top bunk would shift whenever you tried to climb up. In addition to this, there is no privacy in the rooms as staff can enter your room at any time. There are noise censors in the hallways which will pick up even the slightest sounds, like shuffling and whispering. Twice, the staff from the hostel barged into our room before knocking to make sure every roomed stayed silent. They even threatened to kick us out for being “too loud”.
The staff were horrible, they spoke aggressively and even screamed at one student, as we were not allowed to leave any food uneaten despite the fact that it was completely sickening.
