Lewarde historic mining center, offering a guided tour of the galleries and meetings with former miners.
Located in the heart of the coalfield, it is France's largest museum dedicated to mining. For several years now, the Centre historique Minier has been developing a collection of works of art and decorative objects illustrating mining and miners, and guided tours of the reconstructed galleries provide an insight into the evolution of techniques and working conditions deep underground, from 1720 to 1990. Both gripping and instructive, the visit is a must.
