Flanders is home to many intact or restored mills.
In Flanders, you can discover many mills that are still intact or in working order. This is the case of the Kasteel-Meulen (castle mill). In the past, Mount Cassel was dotted with about twenty of these wooden giants, used for grinding cereals and oilseeds. The first mill of the castle dates from the 16th century and was burned in 1911. In 1937, the last mill of Cassel also burned. In 1949, the tourist office decided to buy the mill of a neighboring town, Arneke, which is still open occasionally today.
