HENRI IV'S OAK TREE
Henri IV's oak is a real curiosity, under which you can quench your thirst and enjoy the aura that emanates from it
Merles is home to a local curiosity and legend, the so-called Henry IV oak tree. The story goes that on the morning of Friday July 10, 1579, Henri de Navarre, escorted by 44 horsemen and accompanied by his wife, Queen Margot, and her retinue, stopped under this majestic tree to rest and drink from the nearby spring. The need to quench one's thirst was great after the feast given the day before in Auvillar. Take a seat in the shade of this oak and let the legend and the unique aura it exudes wash over you.
