The history of the municipal building has been far from peaceful. In the Middle Ages, the old town hall was located on rue de l'École. In 1611, an explosion in a gunpowder storehouse caused a fire that destroyed the building and a valuable part of the archives, including those of the Château de Nérac. Rebuilt with a belfry and bell to prevent future disasters, the building was subsequently restored by the town. Since 2008, it has been listed as a Monument Historique. Today's town hall stands in Place du Général de Gaulle.
