CIRCUITS DES LANDES DU FRAU-DEGAGNAZES
A signposted trail where you can take part in health and fitness exercises.
The easy circuits of Le Frau (2.5 km) and Le Dégagnazès (3.5 km) are located in a sensitive natural area, with regularly maintained trails in the heart of the forest and sometimes along its edges. Here, you can recharge your batteries, breathe in the fresh air, fully experience nature and, above all, respect it! Yet another of La Bouriane's secret corners, now open to the public. Children can follow the markings of a little mascot, which can be spotted on the trail markers.
For history lovers, the viewpoint in the middle of the trail is remarkable. If you look up at the sky, you'll be reminded of the parachute drops made by the Allies who came here to help the maquisards during the war, from 1943 to 1944. The Musée de la Résistance du Lot (Lot Resistance Museum) has been able to identify it precisely, and a commemorative plaque has been placed on the site.
Oddly enough, this forest takes its name from the Latin fraus, meaning "deception". As far back as 1200, the monks of Dégagnazès were clearing the land to chase brigands away from their lairs. Gradually, the moorland and heather landscapes were used for the construction of log roofs (shepherd's shelters), a reconstruction of which can be seen along the way. Other surprises await you: the giants of Le Frau, the ruins of the Maison de la Toun (an old lady lived there with her animals as a hermit until 1919), a pond and information on the local environment, flora and fauna.
