Fascinatingly beautiful caves with twelve enchanting rooms, each more enchanting than the last, and an arrival by small train.

The Lacave caves celebrate 120 years of public access! The famous biospeleologist Armand Viré, renowned for his work on dinosaur tracks and his museum in Luzech, pioneered the discovery of the Lacave caves in 1902. Located in the cliffs overlooking the Dordogne, these caves of exceptional beauty were developed and opened to the public under his direction. Since 1961, access to the caves has been via a small electric train, which climbs 400 metres through the rock to the heart of the hill, where it stops at an unusual station. On arrival, you'll be welcomed into the Grande Salle du Chaos, whose unique acoustics make it ideal for summer concerts.

The tour continues through 12 rooms, each offering fascinating landscapes. You'll discover mysterious lakes and surprisingly shaped concretions. Highlights include the Milky Waterfall, the Eccentrics, the Tarasque, the Three Fates, the Snow Corridor and the Hall of Black Lights. During your guided tour, you'll hear extraordinary stories about legendary dragons, giant spiders and angels. Take time to admire the 60-metre-high Grand Dome, as well as the Salle des Mirages, where reflections from the ceiling create the illusion of a sunken city. You'll then reach the Salle des Merveilles, a 2,000 m² space featuring a spellbinding display of fireflies. 1h30 of magic and wonder in the depths of the earth.
