Ideal castle to recharge your batteries in the calm and serenity of Carlucet

Here is the ideal place to recharge your batteries. The campsite, one of the most beautiful in the department, welcomes caravans, tents and motor homes on spacious pitches. It also offers a gîte, chalets and mobile homes for rent. Holidaymakers who opt for a freedom pitch are given the keys to a car: an ideal choice for travelling without your motor home! The campsite also has a restaurant that serves local gastronomic cuisine.

Bedankt! Benno en Jeannette.

Quiet, adult only and In the middle of the countryside. Seemed especially quiet this week. Large pitches with water and electricity. Clean bathrooms and hot water - sometimes have to push several times before it’s hot enough. Bread can be ordered night before. Bar/restaurant area is only place you can use wifi. No 3G connection on the site at all which did not suit us but may not be a problem to others. Pool has new loungers and parasols. Great for exploring the dordogne area.

We visited this site back in 2016 without a car and wanted to see a few things in the area so came back when we had one. Follow the dictions on the website. The highlight of our many trips out were the Caves at Padriac. Stuart and Sheila are great hosts making you feel really welcome. The site is in a great position for total relaxation, peace and quiet. The pitches are all a great size. The pool is big and the washrooms are spotless although we mainly used the facilities in our motorhome. We had a curry in the restaurant one night and there was a jazz band playing. The food was excellent and a good price and the band weren’t bad either! As the site is set in a forest if you want satellite reception you may be disappointed on some pitches. We had a BIG dish and managed to get reception as we are saddos that have to get our fix of Rugby League, Formula 1 Etc. Phone reception and internet is patchy but didn’t worry us at all. To get any shopping you need to go to Grammat which is about 10 miles away. There’s a LIDL and a big E L’Clerc. Now onto some small recommendations. The pitches and general areas could do with more regular mowing as when we turned up some hadn’t been done for a while and were looking overgrown. To be fair to Stuart, he told us to pick a pitch and if it needed mowing he would come and do it. I just think it would improve the impression of the site if it was done more regularly. The pool does need a bit of TLC to bring it back to the standard we remembered when we last visited. There were tons of flies around our pitch! Nothing anyone can do about this but there were loads! We really enjoyed our stay.

This is our third time at Chateau Lacomte, previous visits were over 10 years ago, from UK, with a caravan. This time we were touring Europe from NZ and stayed in the gite attached to the chateau with family who joined us from UK. We also stayed in our caravan either end of our fortnight and Stuart allowed us to store the caravan on site. We found Stuart and Sheila helpful and very friendly throughout our visit.
The gite has a large sitting room, dining kitchen ,two bedrooms, a bath/shower room and a downstairs toilet. It has been sympathetically converted, with exposed beams and wooden floors. The rooms are large, clean with good quality furniture. There was also a TV with internet access (we used our Netflix subscription) a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and fridge freezer. Both large beds were very comfortable and the bedding great quality. The shower in the bathroom has great water pressure. There was outdoor furniture and sun beds and BBQ in the back garden allowing privacy from the terrace and other guests. We loved our stay and thought it was great value.
The swimming pool, a short walk from the gite, was clean, tested daily by Stuart and inspected monthly by local council.
We dined at the restaurant on many occasions and the food and wine was excellent. Stuart bakes baguettes, croissants, pan au chocolad and pain au raisin for morning collection, highly recommended.
Together with British, Dutch and French guests, we enjoyed a couple of hilarious quiz nights on the terrace!
We visited Cahors and Rocamadour and got tickets to a musical event at the Cahors Blues Festival. We recommend the caves at Gouffre de Padarac and the river cruise/walk between Bouzies and St Cirque Lapopie. I also cycled a few road loops from the campsite.
The facilities, both camping and in and around the gite were very good. Lacomte is about having a relaxing time. Some of it is old, but that’s part of the attraction. Pitches have privacy, separated by hedges.
We can highly recommend spending time here. It is a peaceful oasis and a great place to relax. We will be back for a fourth visit next time we are over from NZ.

We stayed at this so called Country Club in June of this year.

Our report contained valid criticisms of the site and the owner.
Unfortunately he is so defensive he tells untruths and exaggerates situations to suit his own purposes as you can see in his vitriolic reply. All too common I’m afraid in his replies to others, who dare to criticise.
To suggest you use the pole end of a squeegee to turn on the shower is both ludicrous and laughable, well worthy of a ‘Faulty Towers’ sketch.

It is not just us who think his descriptions, comments and demeanour lack professionalism, here are a few quotes from previous visitors.

“Stayed here in June 2019, was looking forward to a nice relaxing chill out. Site was very unkempt, swimming pool filthy, needs a good makeover before it can claim 4 stars again. French version of Fawlty Towers springs to mind.”

“Stuart who was very knowledgeable of the area & amenable till he complained about a family member in another outfit who had arrived shortly before us, I ignored the sarcasm & said I wasn't the same person.”

“Interesting that site was only 25% occupied and every guest was a Brit?
We felt that we had been " had over" by the booking system, the surcharge for paying by credit card, the filthy car, the description of the shower/ toilet facilities.”

“The owner is not welcoming, in fact the night we arrived we felt like we were inconveniencing him.I felt we had met the original Basil Fawlty!
The site is very dated and is need of a lot of TLC.”

“This is a very peaceful, relaxing place. However it is very tired. Needs a lot of work to bring it up to a reasonable standard. Loose paving around pool and on wall tops. Piles of rubble left around. Green algae in swimming pool. toilet facilities tired. Smell of drains around facilities and on bar terrace. Reading other comments, particularly about the 'crisp' incident, I can only say nothing has changed. Penny pinching seems to be common.”

Replying with Respect & Understanding. You have to stop targeting us with your deep rooted anger by placing vindictive & untrue reviews. Sadly your Wife’s dementia ruined many people’s holiday whilst you were here, not just your own. You chose to leave because of this, we did not ask you to leave. We received many complaints about her constant screaming, your dog that never stopped barking and yourself who just never stopped shouting at them to be quiet. We had guests that left, and guests that on looking around the camping chose not to stay as your wife was screaming. But we understood your dilemma and did not complain or ask you to leave. Instead we ourselves lost business. Your comments are spiteful & we are glad we will never see you here again. 1: So called Country Club: In France Adult Only was illegal in 2010 & we were not permitted to use the word camping. 2: The shower block is kept impeccably clean, it has everything required for a 4* campsite. Are they super luxurious with piped music ? No ! 3: Cold Water: Guests are informed that if they are the first one to use the shower block in the morning, they must take the long handle provided and press the button a few times before they go in and shower. It is a large shower block, the water laying over night in the pipe work has to be used, before the hot water gets through. 4: The shower cubicles are produced for campsites & ours are the same as many other campsites. 5:Pool: Yes we had to part empty the pool to repair some tiles. This was carried out during bad weather. It was full, clean & ready for the good weather. Upgrading: ?? It is a beautiful pool that holds water. If it was filthy you would not have swam in it! The water is tested each day according to legal requirements. 6: Sloping Pitches: They are not concrete pitches so not spirit level flat but neither are they badly sloping. If it rains we our site does not flood. There is no ground that gave way under a caravan or Motorhome. People moved pitch to be further away from the constant noise from Mr Law’s pitch. 7: Restaurant: A 3 course “Plat du Jour” was available everyday, and no one told him that he had to let us know the day before. The full menu was available before he left. 8: Campsite Charges: As listed on our website, so costs were known. A fee is charged for the use of a Credit Card, whether it be a Euro card or not when paying for your stay. Our prices remain the same since Brexit, bank charges have not. 9: A Couple arrived in a Motorhome. Yes, this couple did leave early because of Mr Law’s shouting, his wife’s screaming & their barking dog. We refunded the amount to him as they said their holiday was being ruined. 10: The Owner: My Husband could not have been more helpful to Mr Law, ensuring that everything was arranged at the vets for him. Infact we were both very attentive to his needs. We felt so sorry for him & his wife. Unfortunately when you run a business you meet people who are just simply unpleasant, vindictive & spiteful. My Husband that talks about guests behind their backs: if he has something to say, he says it to them. It sounds like it was Mr Law running my Husband down with other guests. 11: Campsite: Mr Law is totally wrong with his assumption that our Campsite has been up for sale for several years. We never told him that, only we know our business, not guests ! We feel it is Mr Law who has shortcomings, he is a very sad & nasty person; we are so pleased that we will never see him here again.12: Bookings: Yes, like most businesses in tourism bookings are down; we endured Brexit, two years of Covid then the war. Obviously a little beyond Mr Law’s comprehension. We did not ask Mr Law to leave, he chose to. Our terms and conditions state, that should you choose to shorten your holiday & leave for whatever reason, a refund will not be made. Wishing you well in your difficult circumstances
