Galiot de Genouillac, Grand Ecuyer de France, built the château between 1525 and 1535. In the 18th century, the château was abandoned by its owners. Carved stones and architectural ornaments were resold by materials dealers. This Renaissance gem consisted of four wings; today, the west wing remains, along with a fine Gothic staircase, representations of Roman emperors, Hercules and his labors.
