PARC NATIONAL DES PYRENEES

The headquarters of the Pyrenees National Park is located in Tarbes. It is there that the different services elaborate and ensure the missions in collaboration with the field teams. There are three services: the service "Knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage", the service "Management of the Heritage and Development" and the service "Communication", which work together to implement the missions of the National Park. In total, there are about thirty people working to define the actions to be implemented here. The park rangers are both sworn agents in charge of enforcing the law (a very strict code of conduct must be observed), but they also have, of course, a role of observers and educators: they must observe the evolution and behavior of animal populations (some isards, for example, are equipped with transmitters that allow them to be tracked), take a census of the flora, analyze the microclimates... This allows to elaborate a management of the environment adapted to the local conditions. The Park House in Tarbes offers exhibitions on the different missions and many films on the park and the natural heritage are shown on demand. The Pyrenees National Park also offers a reception and information area, where you can consult documentation on the natural and cultural wealth of the valleys of the National Park, the refuges and the regulations.
