THEOBON CASTLE
A stronghold that became an elegant country residence at the junction of the Lot-et-Garonne, the Dordogne and the Gironde.
What adventures this château has had! Damaged during the Franco-English wars, it was rebuilt at the end of the 15th century, only to be damaged again during the French Revolution. Thanks to enthusiasts for history and old stones, it escaped ruin. Successive renovations have brought back to life its painted ceilings, witnesses to its former splendor. Its finest mantelpiece, sold in the 1920s, is now housed in a museum at Harvard University. A wonderful discovery for lovers of old stones. A must-see for the whole family!
