LE MASSIF DU BÉOUT
A mountain rich in history, used as a sarcophagus quarry during the Merovingian period, a place to see by cable car
Until the 1990s, a cable car took passengers to the top of Le Béout. The arrival station is still visible from downtown Lourdes. Now, to reach the 791-meter-high summit, you have to get there on foot. The Béout trail, for example, is ideal in fine weather. It's a 10-kilometer hiking trail that follows the GR101 and passes by the Croix du Houssat. This mountain is rich in history, having been used as a sarcophagus quarry during the Merovingian period.
