For visitors, pilgrims and the sick, the candle is synonymous with an intention, a wish or a thank-you. It is a symbolic object during a visit to Lourdes, a symbol of hope and light towards a better future. La Ciergerie de Lourdes has been making candles since 1928. The candles are made entirely by hand. There are two traditional techniques: dipping and molding. An ecological approach is adopted, with biodegradable and compostable containers, and the soy-based vegetable wax is made with cereals from the Hautes-Pyrénées.
