The grotto at Massabielle is one of the most famous in the world. It was here that the Virgin Mary appeared 18 times to the young shepherdess Bernadette Soubirous. It was also here that the Virgin pointed out the miraculous spring to the saint. Surmounted by the Massabielle rock, the grotto extends 9.50 metres into the ground. The spring is at the far left, and feeds the basins and pools into which pilgrims in search of a miracle plunge. The grotto, also known as Grotte des Apparitions, receives no less than 6 million visitors a year!

Exploitation touristique maximale
Que l'on y croie ou pas, on ne peut demeurer insensible devant cette procession empreinte de bonté et d’humilité.
Malheureusement, on est vite rattraper par la réalité, car à LOURDES comme ailleurs, il n'y a rien sans profit et on reste stupéfait lorsqu'on voit tout le commerce généré par ce lieu qui se veut saint.
Il y a aussi beaucoup d'humilité dans ce lieu, et c'est sans doute ce qui est recherché.
