Former feudal castle housing one of the world's largest collections of birds of prey

On its rocky outcrop, overlooking the village of Beaucens, this former 11th-century feudal castle welcomes you to its walls, now haunted by the lords of the sky. Within these walls steeped in history, you'll find one of the world's largest collections of birds of prey: over 45 species. Most birds of prey are free-ranging, so you can see them up close in their natural habitat. Thanks to the delicate and skilful art of falconers, perpetuated since the Middle Ages, these diurnal or nocturnal birds reveal some of their secrets. Eagles, vultures, buzzards, falcons, Egyptian vultures, kites, owls and owls demonstrate their skills every afternoon in a magical musical show. This enchanting show is rich in emotions, some of them quite powerful, as some of them even graze you with their wings. The colorful, more exotic parrots descend from the sky, free, to come and eat out of your hands. It's a beautiful moment that will leave a lasting impression on young and old alike. For many years now, the Donjon des Aigles has also been involved in the conservation of birds of prey through the natural reproduction of species that have become sensitive in the wild. To avoid any disturbance, the birds are housed in a center set up away from the public near Argelès-Gazost. Although artificial insemination is sometimes used, the method most commonly applied here is natural fertilization and collection of the first clutch.

Je me suis encore fait avoir ???? !

Wozu braucht man diese Show?

Superb all round. Fantastic display with up to about a dozen different raptors in flight simultaneously. Also arena display in the great setting of the old castle. Display lasts about an hour. Subject to sufficient attendees, displays are at 15:15 and 17:00. We attended the 15:15 one with about 50 others. Only real downside for us English folk was that all commentary and info signs are in French.
