SALVATION VALLEY PARK
A park featuring remarkable flora and fauna on the former Grands Thermes site in Bagnères-de-Bigorre.
There are walks that only Bagnères-de-Bigorre has the secret to, and what can we say about this green lung that culminates like a preserved Eden on the heights of the town! In just a few steps, you'll tread a landscape that's not only splendid, but also full of memories. The soul of Vallon du Salut is so steeped in history that you'd expect to come across a prince and his court, curists in crinoline or an artist from a bygone century. Its picturesque appearance and natural treasures earned it the status of listed site in 2007, and from the porch that marks its entrance, you'll understand why. This was the site of the former Grands Thermes, built in 1828. In the 16th century, the Aygo Tébio river, canalised by stone walls, attracted tourists from all over France. Typical, protected flora and fauna remain from this former marshland. Continuing your walk, you come to a grotto, a marvellous open-air theater that hosts a variety of events. Its enchanting appearance adds to the charm of the 244-hectare site, which has two faces: green on the valley side and forested on the way up to the Bédat massif.
