Nieuwe eigenaar die mooie Franse gerechten klaarmaakt voor een schappelijke prijs. Heel fijn terras in de schaduw. In de vakantieperiode is het verstandig van van te voren even te bellen voor een goede plek. Heel vriendelijke bediening. Goed te combineren met een van de wandelingen vanuit Gavaudun of een bezoek aan de ruine.

Une cuisine merveilleuse dans ce restaurant! Aux fourneaux, Matthias, un jeune chef pétri de talent, d'une inventivité rare, sachant accommoder les saveurs pour le plus grand plaisir de nos papilles et dresser les plats pour nous donner envie au premier regard. Au service, Pauline, sa compagne, dynamique et sympathique, connaissant parfaitement sa carte et ses vins. Nous y sommes allés 4 fois et ce fut, à chaque fois, un pur moment de bonheur.

Excellent small restaurant with few tables, so it’s worth booking in advance. Small menu using local seasonal food, reasonably priced!

My in laws surprised me with a dinner here for my birthday and the food was outstanding! The service was nice and friendly. I really appreciated our waiter translating the menu in English for me. In my eyes this is a Michelin level restaurant and we will return again and again.

Heerlijk gegeten op het "groene" terras. Vriendelijke bediening en heerlijke gerechten. Als we weer in de buurt zijn, komen we zeker weer langs.

Un vrai bonheur de passer à l'Essentiel (nous y avons déjeuné plusieurs fois). L'accueil et le service est parfait, convivial et attentif. Le menu est toujours source de découvertes gustatives, la présentation des plats, sans exception, est impeccable avec une foison de couleurs, les saveurs incomparables, variées, surprenantes, tout est expliqué lors de la commande et à la présentation du plat, tout est frais, local, bio autant que possible. Bref une mine de plaisirs.

Platos deliciosos con productos de la tierra y un diseño prefecto para el entorno. En temporada, merece la pena reservar sitio en su pequeña terraza. La atención es muy agradable y la propietaria habla español, entre otros idiomas.

Très belle découverte en visitant le château. Cuisine fine, recherchée et originale avec des produits locaux (même les sachets de sucre pour le café lol). Alors que nous étions installés à l'intérieur, une table s'est libérée en terrasse et aussitôt on nous l'a proposée. Enfin discuter avec la propriétaire fut un moment d'échange très agréable....Tous nos vœux de longs succès.

Superbe terrasse végétale avec vue sur le village, un service pétillant. Toutes les conditions sont réunies pour savourer au mieux l'excellente cuisine du chef.

We spent 2 weeks in the region visiting many Michelin starred or recommended restaurants...even though this restaurant was not in the Michelin guide it stood out as the best restaurant that we visited. Each dish had a lot of components which normally results in a confused and unsatisfying dish, but not here. Every dish was an explosion of taste and delight. The lamb chops rate as probably the finest dish that I have ever tasted. If in the area, you MUST visit this restaurant for an unforgettable experience.

I visited in February 2024, not really the busiest month in the region. We were welcomed and the cosy restaurant was quite full for a Thursday evening. The menu is really exciting, far more than the "standard" french dishes, they are innovative, beautifully plated and perfectly cooked. I understand that they have a frequently changing menu, driven by the seasons. We were a party of six, including 2 children, and were therefore able to taste the whole menu of the evening. I personally had an off menu special, the flavour combination of veal with peanut foam is something I never had before and will definitely remember!
The service was impeccable for such a small restaurant. Our hostess was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine she was serving, and spoke fluently French, English and even German. I loved the honest recommendation of the wine (one of the cheapest on the list), and was really intrigued by the breath of the list. Particularly the fact that most wines come from lesser known regions in France. A real adventure.
I eat in some of the most well known restaurants in Paris, London and New York, yet i'm rarely so excited and impressed by any of them as I have been by L'essentiel.
The only regret I have is that this was the first time I've visited after they are open for 3 years! I will certainly be back and can highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exciting and good dining experience!
