TOUR D'ARMAGNAC
The impressive 40-meter-high tower, which houses the cathedral's archives, is now home to its treasure museum.
At the corner of Piazza Salinis and the Cathedral, it's impossible to miss this impressive 40-metre-high tower (now home to the Cathedral Treasure Museum). It was erected in the 14th century at the behest of the archbishop, who needed a prison. Under the Ancien Régime, it became the repository for the cathedral's archives. In 1792, however, it was returned to its original function. During the Terror, convicts were imprisoned here, and during the coup d'état of December 1851, opponents of the Second Empire were locked up here.
