This grand building dominating the Place de la Libération - its construction was spurred on by the famous Intendant d'Étigny - is home to some wonderful surprises. A magnificent Italian-style theater, whose decoration he financed in its entirety, hosts a variety of shows throughout the year. Upstairs, you'll find the famous Salle des Illustres, a listed historic monument, featuring portraits of Gersois people who have left their mark on the department's history. These paintings are the work of Gustave de Lassalle-Bordes, a local artist and Delacroix's assistant under Napoleon III.
