ORDEAL OF RAYNAUDE

The Calvaire de Raynaude is a must-see in the area around Le Mas-d'Azil. This religious edifice, a church dominated by a cemetery, is as surprising as it is imposing, just a few kilometers from the grotto. Its Way of the Cross is truly monumental, winding its way up the hill. We owe this highly original creation to a priest, Abbé Rousse. Each station along the way is a little chapel in its own right, originating from the mysterious Baulou monastery. The church is dedicated to Mary Immaculate, Saint Joseph and Saint Anne.
