Famous for its 2,100m2 prehistoric cave, Le Mas-d'Azil is also famous for the leading role it played in the Wars of Religion. Protestantism made its appearance here as early as 1540 and quickly took hold. The square became one of the major centers of the new religion in the Midi. Today, the village is a place of calm and relaxation, where history and nature blend harmoniously. Highlights include the17th-century church of Saint-Étienne, the old 15th-century bridge and the unusual dolmen at Cap del Pouech. Its hiking trails and narrow streets lined with half-timbered houses offer a wealth of interesting discoveries.
