LE JACQUARD FRANÇAIS

Le Jacquard Français is a manufacturer of top-of-the-range household linen. This specialist in damasked linen is located in a traditional textile cradle, the Vosges, with ancestral know-how. The French Jacquard holds the precious label Entreprise du patrimoine vivant.

History. It all began in 1888 in Gérardmer, in the heart of the Vosges mountains; it was there that the first French Jacquard weaving workshops were set up. The manufactory takes its name from a weaving technique invented in the 19th century by Joseph-Marie Jacquard. This makes it possible to obtain a damask fabric, i. e. with patterns visible both upside down and upside down. This type of fabric owes its name to the city of Damascus in Syria, a stopover on the famous Silk Road. This complex technique makes it possible to combine in the same fabric a multitude of different weaves and thus to compose, by weaving, many original and creative patterns. Jacquard was limited to white until the 1960s, the colour appeared late in the interior decoration. Primrose Bordier, one of the most famous designers, challenged the codes and collaborated with the French Jacquard in 1978 to make an interior revolution. This combination was a success for the brand, which created new trends thanks to the precision of its patterns, its extreme finesse and the unique harmonies of its colours.

On November 9, 2018, the factory celebrated its 130th anniversary.

The products. Tablecloths, napkins, table runners, tea towels, aprons, beach sheets, bathrobes....

Employment. 120 employees, 70 of whom work at the Gérardmer factory in the Vosges. The company has a turnover of 14 million euros, half of which is for export.
