ABBEY OF ST. NABOR
Abbey church with relics of Saint Nabor, statues and sculptures worth a visit in Saint-Avold
Built of variegated sandstone from the Saint-Avold quarries, the current abbey church was rebuilt in the 18th century and houses the relics of Saint Nabor, a martyred Roman officer who gave the church its name. The plans were conceived by Dom Léopold Durand, a Benedictine monk and architect. Inside, statues and sculptures are well worth a visit, including the 16th-century altarpiece and entombment. The woodwork in the choir is particularly remarkable! The stained glass windows were created by the Naborian Arthur Schouler.
