A majestic and unmissable venue, a hall with rare acoustics recognized by musicians in Metz
A monumental military building built under Napoleon III, the Arsenal was transformed in 1989 by architect Ricardo Bofill. The complex includes many spaces dedicated to music and the arts in general. There are three performance halls (the Governor's studio, the Esplanade hall and the famous Grande salle), reception rooms (including one reserved for conferences), an exhibition gallery and a boutique. In addition, the site is marked by two historical monuments, Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains and the Templar Chapel. But let us return to music, to which the Great Hall is a credit. In total, 10,000 m3 of volume and 1,354 seats! the stage is located in the heart of the stands. This model, (placing artists at the centre of the space and the public), is better known to music lovers as the "shoe box". This type of room (found in Boston, Vienna and Amsterdam) allows perfect sound diffusion. Result? One of the most exceptional acoustics in Europe, making the Arsenal a popular recording venue for major record companies. By hosting the Victoires de la Musique ceremony in 2009, the Arsenal was able to extend its cultural influence both nationally and internationally.
